New Media Initiatives:

• The Mbanefo Foundation promotes awareness of new media initiatives in Nigeria through its support for conferences and symposia on Nollywood—the Nigerian Film Industry, a non-oil sector grassroots cultural and economic initiative that has grown into one of the largest film industries in the world. The Mbanefo Foundation provided principal financial support for Nollywood Rising: First International Nollywood Convention and Symposium (Los Angeles, California, June 13-17, 2007) that inaugurated scholarly discourse on contemporary African visual culture and new media from the perspective of the internationally acclaimed Nigerian video-film industry. The Foundation’s support is however restricted to support for annual conventions and symposia on Nollywood. It does not fund films or film-related projects.
